2 hours and 22 minutes till I am off

Can’t wait!

Managed to fill four 13 gallon bags and a big box with trash, and get my Sunday Scribbling up.    I wrote about my father again; he was some character.  How I wish I could see him just one more time.  He was right about so many things.

Let run check my mail quick.

See ya!

My friend is away till after the 4th, and I’m tending over all their business concerns.

Today’s project is getting the stock area together, and it’s no small task.

She Who Blogs has been a real bright spot in all of it.

My little blog browsing breaks during the day help me keep it together somehow.

Back to work.

It’s gorgeous out today, and I am hoping tomorrow will be the same.

Looks like I’ve got everything done including a lot of personal paperwork.

Whoo hooo!

Now that it’s a bit quiet I am thinking about what to write for  Sunday Scribblings

The theme is I’ve got a secret

My father used to look at me and whisper; “I’ve got a secret.”

And I always answered, “What is it?”

The answer was always the same; “If I tell you it won’t be a secret anymore.”

Every once in a while I browse through Post Secret; they get some great submissions.

I’ll probably write about my dad again this week.  He was a pretty amazin’ dude.

Catch you all later.

Frances

until Day Off Sunday, and I can’t wait.

Things have been non-stop.  Any downtime is used to jump online and see what’s up.

I did manage to get most of my memes up this week, but didn’t have anything for Wordless Wednesday :(

There’s been no time for photography, but hopefully I can fit in a lovely photostroll Sunday.  I really wanted to last Sunday, but my friend and I spent hours writing together.  It was great.

she who blogs is going quite well; we got some new members this week.  The blogroll should be updated by tomorrow night.

Saturday’s Photo Hunt theme is shiny.  While it’s a little quiet I better see if I have something appropriate in my photos.

Hopefully I’ll get  back into the city early enough to buy socks.  This morning  my sock drawer was filled with nothing but singles - no pairs.  Every time I do laundry at least one is lost; it’s adding up guys.  I’ve decided I am going to buy at least 2 dozen identical pairs; it will save me a little aggravation.

The single socks are handy for dusting though.  I just pull one over my hand and go.

Ciao for now

In a matter of minutes:

  • a customer service rep accidentally disconnected me after a 30 minute hold with the worst music ever
  • Word crashed taking my document with it - sob
  • the second phone line died
  • my homefries spilled into my coffee - don’t ask me how I did it - okay?

Somehow managed to salvage the document, and get customer service back on the line.    The rep actually gave me what I wanted.  And I’m praying the second phone line will receive faxes if nothing else.

A friend lent me a great book over the weekend: 700 Sundays by Billy Crystal

It’s an easy and funny read; I finished it in under two hours.

Oh look, a fax just came in - somebody up there does like me :)

See ya later

The morning started off good; the bus was right there when I got to the station.

Transportation you need right there when you need it can be such a beautiful sight.

The guy sitting behind me was a recent graduate in marketing.

How do I know this?

Glad you asked.

First off he made three very loud calls on his cell, and left messages on friend’s voice mails with tips on how to approach customers ec. etc.   You know how a person’s telephone voice can be a little different from their regular voice?  Well this could have been described as his disc jockey voice.

After the messages there was other work to do.  And what was that ?  Trying to impress the young lady seated next to him with his vast experience in marketing.  Hey, the guy graduated last June that makes him old wood in the field.

In front of me I had a woman who put on make-up for the entire 15 minute ride.  It made me so nervous to see her aiming mascara wands, and color pencils so near her eyes while the bus was in motion.  She was an expert though, by time the bus stopped she was glamorous.

The day passed uneventfully, which is more than fine with me.

I’m heading back to the city now.  An ice cold chai awaits me at my local Starbucks, and I have two new magazines to read.

My Sunday Scribbling is up a day late.

I wrote about my dad.

Everyone have an incredible evening.

If you asked me:  What was the most unusual movie you’ve ever seen?

It would have to be  Dancer in the Dark, which I am watching for the second time on IFC right now.

I woke up at 6:30 am, and found it while I was channel surfing.

Right now Bjork is on trial for murder, and the whole courtroom broke into a song and dance number.

Glad I’m up early because I have a load of stuff to get out of the way today, including the big blue of laundry waiting patiently for me by the door.

Be back in a bit.

Okay, so this morning I had some errands along Broadway, and I found myself pretty near  KFC.

They’ve been advertising those new Famous Flavor Bowls , and the little red devil who sits on my left shoulder whispered ”why not?”

It was round about 10:30am when I arrived at the restaurant.  The sight & smell of freshly fried chicken and baked biscuits made me weak in the knees.  A fast moving young lady, the kid was everywhere trust me, took my order.  I got the bowl with the biscuit & white gravy.  And a Diet Pepsi - gotta cut the calories somewhere ;)

The place had one of those self-serve soda stations.  It’s highly entertaining to watch some people use these machines.  I managed to get my soda without misadventure, and picked up my bowl at the counter.

I’d like to send a big Hallmark card to the person who came up with this one.  It’s layers of mashed potato, crispy corn niblets, and tiny bits of boneless fried chicken topped with white gravy and a biscuit.

This is will new treat for when I’ve Been A Very Good Girl & Deserve Something Special

What’s your reward for you’ve been very good?

Even the the weather page says otherwise I am sure it was at least 110 degrees today.

And of course the air conditioner went into overload, so I turned it off.  Right now the door is open, and the ceiling fan is whirling away, and I am hoping it will be dark sooner rather than later.

I took some random photos of uptown New York this morning, and will be posting them for you later tonight when I’m at my own laptop.  They were taken while I was walking from 168th Street & Broadway to bus station at the George Washington Bridge.  It will be interesting to read your comments.

The she who blogs group has 9 members now.  Every time I check the group mail I find new posts; it’s quite an interesting group of women that has come together.

Yesterday I stopped in Borders to look at some books before meeting my friend.  There’s quite a few being written about the impact of blogging, and I spent quite a while reading.

For some blogging is therapy.  For others like myself it’s the creative outlet we didn’t know we needed so desparately till we found it.

Blogs keep us in touch, bring us our news, make us laugh and cry.  They provoke thought.   At the end of this new century I know they will be declared one of the greatest means of communication ever.

Blog on my dears, blog on.

Love,

Frances

The weather was perfect today.  Not hot, not chilly, and overcast which meant I could wear my black t-top and capris without fear of melting.

I met up with a friend, and we had a nice walk and early dinner.

We also saw Oceans Thirteen, which has a killer cast.  George Clooney, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle and my beloved big Al - no last name necessary you know who which one I mean.

Elliot Gould & Carl Reiner were both superb in supporting roles.

A must add to your must see lists.

Getting the companion website together for our Yahoo Group.

It’s just 8 members, but there’s so much positive energy, I’m lovin’ it.

Managed to get my Saturday Photo Hunt up, the theme was shoes.

Sunday Scribblings is next; the theme is spicy.

Hubby got me a  summer membership to the neighborhood pool/gym.  He knows how much I’ve missed my water aerobics.  I think I’m the only person at the place who does works out in the pool for hours, and yet can’t swim.  What can I tell you?  I just don’t like putting my head under water.  Thank goodness for floatation belts.

Today for the first time ever I left my cell phone at home.  I realized while the bus was crossing the bridge; the driver didn’t look like he’d turn the bus around for me ;)

Fortunately my friend has a spare they rarely use, so I have that to use just in case.

It’s amazing.  Ten years ago I didn’t have or even want a cell phone.  Now I can’t go two steps without a phone, and it better have a full QWERTY keyboard so I can text too!

Sending good vibes your way :)

The topic for Ten On Tuesday this week was Ten Occupations You Wanted To Be When You Grew Up.

1.) Magazine Publisher
2.) Artist
3.) Speech Writer
4.) Poet
5.) Lecturer
6.) Reporter
7.) Singer
8.) Actress
9.) Helicopter Pilot
10.) Defense Attorney

As I look over my list memories of why I picked certain ones pop up.

Magazine Publisher.   That dream started on a winter’s night back in the late seventies.  I needed to make some photocopies of something right away, and it was late.  Where to go?  Yes, that little hole in the wall on 96th might still be open.  As I walked up the dark street I saw bright light coming through the glass door - yes!  I handed my papers to the creepy guy behind the counter and asked for a copy of each.

“Read this while you wait.”

I looked down and found a young woman with a huge smile sitting on the floor stapling pages together. A half dozen stacks of paper surrounded her. Her ink stained fingers held a neatly folded set of copies.

“It’s my magazine.”

“Uhhhh, thanks.”

“Okay,” I thought, “a few copies stapled together is your magazine.” And then I began to read it. It was articles about life in New York, and interviews with really cool artists. My finished copies sat on the counter, snow began to fall outside and I kept readingThe Jill Moscow Newsletter.

“Like it, huh?”

“Love it”

“Keep it.”

Jill sent her newsletters out to about four hundred subscribers, who all paid a small subscription fee. She was the most enterprising woman in the world., and I wanted to be her.

Speech Writer/Lecturer. Back in seventh grade our science class project was to create a presentation to be delivered before the whole class. I chose butterflies. For two weeks butterflies filled my every waking moment. I got a set of slides from somewhere, arranged for a projector and screen, typed everything up and had enough photocopied for every kid in class.

What was supposed to be about a 15 minute presentation took up an entire class period. The teacher and kids practically gave me a standing ovation; I don’t think I walked home that day; I flitted.

Poet. As soon as I could string a few words together I began writing little poems on lined sheets of looseleaf. I would read them outloud to my Italian grandmother who thought them the cleverest verse ever.

My grandmother’s a great cook,

She never ever needs a book.

This short short poem written when I was very young was her favorite. I think she repeated it to everone she ever knew.

I remember her gathering up my looseleaf sheets into little booklets tied together with red yarn. The bows were so neatly done.
Defense Attorney A desire to help the underdog, and dozens of episodes of Perry Mason on late night TV.

Enough for now. I shall return.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

It’s pouring rain here in New York, but I still had a perfectly wonderful Sunday afternoon.

Took a lovely long walk even though it was sprinkling during the afternoon.

Lunch was Chinese at one of my all-time favorite restaurants  The Shun Lee.  I’ve been going there for 26 years now!

Saw Pirates of the Caribbean 3.  It’s nearly three hours long, and loaded with special effects & Johnny Depp **sigh

she who blogs has seven members now, and I’m working on a companion website for it.

Just finished writing Heart an e-mail.  He’s still traveling, but he takes the time to write and send wonderful pictures.

Think I’ll go sink into a hot lavender bath.

Everyone have a good Monday morning.

Waving at you from New York.

Special wave to you Heart!
