My blogbuddy Joy T over at A Spot of T did this meme, and I thought why not?

1.)   My email boxes are very orderly.  Every bit of mail is gone through daily, then either deleted or sorted into folders.  Why can’t I be this neat at home?

2.)   I always have a fully charged back up cell phone in my bag.  It’s unlocked.  If my main cellphone provider goes down, then I can slip another company’s prepaid chip into it and make a call.  The prepaid chip is always in my wallet.

3.)   Laundry has to be done in a certain way.  My daughter throws just about everything in the dryer; this makes me nuts.  Blouses, sweaters and delicates are always drip dried.

4.)   My favorite time to go grocery shopping is about 2am.  You have the whole place to yourself, and no one is ramming a cart into your ankles.

5.)    Laundry detergent is only bought on sale.  Here in New York the regular price for name brands is outrageous; I wait for sales and buy in quantity.

6.)    I go completely stupid when I see an adorable baby.  Can not resist little ones.

Every once in a while I browse through The Daily Meme to see what’s new.

Generally I post memes here.

These are some questions I found at a The Daily Answer.

I’m answering them here for no particular reason at all.

Where are you in the housing market? Buying? Selling? Refinancing? Staying put? Would you ever buy a new house without selling your house first?

We have a very very small apartment in a very very old building here in Manhattan. It’s rent controlled which is almost impossible to find these days, so I guess we’ll be here for the duration. I’ve already lived here more than half my life.

What ice cream flavor could you do without?

Coffee

What was the last test you took? Did you pass it?

I actually took a class via phone yesterday. It took 3 hours and 41 minutes, and I passed.

I love photos! Do you participate in Wordless Wednesday?

I’m a fairly regular participant, but I skipped this week because my favorite camera stopped working last week. Even though I have a new one I am still sort of mourning the other one. Maybe I’ll be in the mood to have a bit of a photostroll this Sunday.

Here’s the weekly questions for Wednesday Mind Hump.

Ice in your drink, or no ice?

Generally I prefer no ice at all. Like my father I actually will drink a can of room temperature soda. My husband cringes when I do this.

Shoes or barefoot?

Outside - shoes
Inside - socks
We have very old wood floors, and you can get the occasional splinter.

Newspapers or online news?Online news generally, but I occasionally read a newspaper if one happens to be around.

Zoos or amusement parks?

I am afraid of fast rides, and the new theme parks are not for me. New York’s Coney Island though is one of my favorite places in the world. This is the last season though, next year it gets all sanitized and plasticized. **sigh

Zoos are wonderful photo opps.

The Rainforest Zone 2

Whoa Two Polar Bears

Baseball or football?

If I must watch a game I prefer baseball.

Movies or TV?

Movies!
Though TV can be fun too.

This morning while waiting for my hair to dry, I watched an episode of The Waltons.

It was about how Ike Godsey and Cora Beth Walton got married.

If you ever watched the series you’ll remember Ike as the jolly bow-tied owner of the general store.  Cora Beth was his well-meaning nose-in-the-air wife.

Somehow I had missed this episode, and I must say my return to Waltons Mountain was quite enjoyable.

Don’t you love childhood memories?

They smell like scooter pies and taste like Bosco.

Afterwards I went to Starbucks, where I managed to bag a table, and wrote for an hour or so.  A friend called and we chatted about the upcoming elections as I sipped a decaf.

My new camera is in my top dresser drawer.  Quiet mourning is still taking place for it’s predecessor.  When the moment is right I will use it.  It’s just the way I am about things.

Tonight I am going to meet an old friend from farway’s mother for dinner.  She’s a fellow Sagg so the conversation shall be lively.

Hope you are well.

And I will be back with some new pics soon.

For now I’ll use some from my albums.

I’ve been off over the counter pain relievers for over three months now.

I just didn’t like the risks associated with many of them.

This week’s chilling cold is really putting me to test.

My right ankle and knee are one big owwww.

I’ve used three pounds of epsom salts in three days.

An 800 milligram tablet of Motrin or a couple of  Aleve would be so…nope can’t won’t.

I’ll sign myelf welcoming healing energy from all precints.

I did and won a book in one of her raffles.

Kaizen and the Art of Creative Thinking  arrived this morning.

There was even a hand-made bookmark.

Tomorrow I’m looking forward  to a decaf and some reading at Starbucks.

This week’s theme is wood.

Be back at you soon,

Not long ago I was chatting with someone whose locker had been broken into at their gym.

Five thousand dollars worth of personal possessions were stolen.

5 Grand!

Among the items stolen:

  • one laptop
  • a  fleece jacket
  • Chanel glasses - the frames alone cost $700
  • a camera phone
  • wrist watch
  • cash

This made me take a quick count of how much I’d lose if my backpack were stolen with all three phones, my laptop,  camera and mini-camcorder in it.  And what if my cash and credit cards were in there too?

When I was 18 I carried a paper notebook, my wallet and a hair comb in my bag.

No credit cards, no cell phone, no electronics, and frankly not many worries.

Imagine Walkmans were not even out yet.

Everyone have a wonderful day & hang onto your bag!

Will make you laugh.

After much faithful service my Canon Powershot 3.2 stopped operating yesterday.

The extended warranty and insurance were long expired.

I bought a new Canon, but please don’t call it a replacement.

That 3.2 produced my most favorite pictures.

It never let me down.

My new 8.0  will surely give me great service, but it will always be the new camera.

Sending good vibes to all.

NaBloPoMo is going to be a monthly event.

And each month will have an optional theme.

March’s is Lists.

30 unique lists in 30 days?

When I am maintaining multiple blogs?

And participating in blog365?

Yup.  So going for it.

This coming spring/summer is the last season that the Coney Island I have always know and loved will exist.
The powers that be want to modernize it.
Heart and I took these pics on one of his trips to NYC.
I can still taste the greasy fries, and smell the salt spray mixed with 40 odd varieties of sunscreen.

well actually my blog would still be in hiding.

And in case you don’t know who Heart is yesterday’s post will explain a bit.

My first site was over at Xanga for quite a while.

One day for no reason at all I packed up my tent and ended up here.

Almost know one knew about it.  I belonged to several online journal/diary groups, but mostly posted about my paper writing.

It had been on my mind for quite a while to share my secret with Heart.  One night on the phone I just gave him the address.

He was nothing but encouragement & something clicked inside me.

Things have been blogalicious since.

I began to browse among bookshelves.

Anybody got a dustcloth?

A  workbook I filled out in 1995 was hidden under a pile of magazines.

What an experience it was revisiting myself thirteen years ago.

I was the happy mother of a teen-ager.  Today I am the happy mother of a grown-up married lady.

There was several pages that required you to draw pictures of how you saw yourself.

In one I gave myself spinning wheels instead of legs.

And not one section mentions the Internet!

When required to draw what I looked like relaxing I am reading a book and drinking tea.

Interesting.

Bet some of you are wondering what Shelfari is right?

Go to my mine and see - it’s actually quite a lot of fun.

My Shelfari

birthdaycake.gifToday is my dear friend Heart’s birthday.

He is celebrating with family and friends in his homeland.

While he was traveling we only communicated via Internet. On my birthday there was the most amazing video in my email, and a surprise filled package in the postman’s sack.

My first post of the day was about Big Trash Day here in New York.  That’s practically a holiday for Heart.  I remember one St. Paddy’s Day we found a set of skis that went with us to the restaurant for corned beef and cabbage.

During the next week I will posting about more of the fun times we’ve had together.

I’m very blessed - friends like Heart are once in a lifetime.

It’s said that you can furnish an entire apartment in New York on Big Trash Days.
Those are the days citizens are allowed to put out items that don’t fit in ordinary trash barrels.
You might come upon a complete living room or bedroom suite right on the sidewalk.
And the bric-a-brac is piled higher as an alley cat’s eye.
Computer desks, futon frames and filing cabinets are usually easy scores.
It pays to stroll through higher end neighborhoods those days.
Don’t forget to carry a few extra bucks in case you have to cab home a major find.

I was sitting on a bench talking on my cell phone when this hawk landed on the bridge rail.
There was a woman crossing the bridge, and the look of surprise on her face was priceless.
Fortunately my camera was right next to me.

I called.

We talked and talked and talked.

We’re meeting up asap.

Kewl huh?

The New Reading Glasses

Picked up my new reading/computer spectacles, and things are looking quite clear around here.

The frames are a two tone dealio - mauve & a neon yellow.  Believe it or not they work with my hair and eyes.

Old Friends

Several old friends/acquaintances have been coming to mind lately.

There’s one I especially want to call.

He actually called me about 4 and a half years ago.  My grandmother had died that same morning, and I had just left the funeral parlor, so it wasn’t a good time to talk.

We ran into each other near Times Square about three years ago, and had a nice long catch up chat.

Now I’m thinking it would be nice to have another.

He had some qualities that reminded of my brother.

It might look kinda weird just calling after so much time.

But then again how many great things do we miss out on by not calling?

Ciao for now.

One of my favorite park benches lives right near this little bridge in Central Park.
Park benches are great places to sit and write.

february032008 011

This is the bench. Can you see the little plaque on it?

february032008 006

This is a close-up of it. I think Mrs. Wonderful is quite lucky.

Central Park was as beautiful as the weather today.

Am feeling totally wrung out.

Every night this week I dreamt I was running.

At least 7-8 hours of sleep a night - but no rest.

It was all faces and places from my childhood.

Not too surprising considering.

Hope it won’t happen tonight.

I’ll have the apartment all to myself tomorrow.

Will play meditation music and write it all out.

And gather up a big bag of books and things to give away.

That always makes me feel better.

Things need to be used - not gathering dust.

since my brother left this realm of existence.

He was only 26.

Wondering what he would have looked like at nearly forty-five.

He surely would have been calling me old girl by now.

Wondering if he would have been married with kids.

He was not into the being tied down thing.

I would love to be someone’s auntie.

Wondering how different life would be if he were still here.

So much wondering.

So much missing.

Love you Joey.

Stones in Water

The law is not so much carved in stone as it is written in water, flowing in and out with the tide.
Jeff Melvoin, Northern Exposure, Crime and Punishment, 1992

july18 014

If I had my life to live over I’d like to make more mistakes next time. I’d relax. I would limber up. I would be sillier than I have been this trip. I would take fewer things seriously. I would take more chances. I would climb more mountains and swim more rivers. I would eat more ice cream and less beans. I would perhaps have more actual trouble, but I’d have fewer imaginary ones. You see, I’m one of those people who live sensibly and sanely hour after hour, day after day. Oh, I’ve had my moments, and if I had to do it over again, I’d have more of them. In fact, I’d try to have nothing else. Just moments, one after another, instead of living so many years ahead of each day. I’ve been one of those persons who never goes anywhere without a thermometer, a hot water bottle, a raincoat, and a parachute. If I had to do it again, I would travel lighter than I have. If I had my life to live over, I would start barefoot earlier in the spring and stay that way later in the fall. I would go to more dances. I would ride more merry-go-rounds, I would pick more daisies.
