You clearly suffer the same problems as we do in the UK. The teaching of unaided basic maths is to my mind essential. It horrifies me that kids leaving school have no mental arithmatic skills whatsoever. They come to me for bartending jobs, yet can't add the prices of two drinks together in their heads.
