If I were going to be stranded on a desert island, what 10 items would I want in my pockets?

  1. one of those Swiss Army knives with all the attachments
  2. a pen with lots of ink
  3. a really thick notebook
  4. those waterproof matches campers use (signal fires)
  5. digi camera with largest memory card available (for the blog posts after I’m rescued)
  6. a foreign language textbook (might as well learn something while I’m waiting)
  7. waterproof white fabric to protect against the sun
  8. duct tape (you can do anything with that stuff)
  9. a copy of Writing Down The Bones by Natalie Goldberg
  10. most importantly – pics of my family

Wow, I would need some really big pockets.

Is there such a thing as a solar powered laptop?

Ecogeek says yes!

Right now you’ll find the first posts there.

I’m working on a links page, and some other bits and pieces which will be up soon.

Waving at you all from you know where.

cool clean exercise

I’ve rejoined the local pool after too long an absence.

Water Jogging sessions bust stress and nothing hurts afterwards.

Back in ’93 I lost about 60 pounds in a year by cutting down on sweets, meats and breads and working it in the pool.

I’m hoping for a replay.

The truly creative mind in any field is no more than this: A human creature born abnormally, inhumanely sensitive. To them… a touch is a blow, a sound is a noise, a misfortune is a tragedy, a joy is an ecstasy, a friend is a lover, a lover is a god, and failure is death.
Add to this cruelly delicate organism the overpowering necessity to create, create, create — so that without the creating of music or poetry or books or buildings or something of meaning, their very breath is cut off…
They must create, must pour out creation. By some strange, unknown, inward urgency they are not really alive unless they are creating.
–Pearl Buck (1892 – 1973)

I decide to add a link to my favorites, and that’s when I noticed just how long that list has gotten.

Definitely time to revisit and share a few places.

What’s on your favorites list?

Describe five things that you can see right now

My friend J wearing a black polo shirt, blue jeans and black mules.   Her wavy blonde hair is piled high on her head with her ever present sunglasses.  She’s misplaced something important and is tearing up her bags and car looking for it.

An almost empty bottle of Sprite zero.  I actually prefer Diet Coke, but as of late caffeine has become the enemy.  And please don’t talk about Caffeine Free Diet Coke, that’s like beer with no alcohol – why bother?

My white, silver & blue Nike sneakers -   know what?  They definitely have to go for a Tide Ride this weekend.

My cellphone on it’s charger.  It’s a Samsung Blackjack that’s I also use for moblogging.  Tonight I’m using it to post to my new blog from a bench near the Museum of Natural History.  It’s a full moon and that’s my favorite time to start new projects.  This particular bench is one of my favorite for writing of all kinds.

What’s left of the amazing fruit tart my partner bought for tea time. Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, mango and kiwi on the yummiest cream and crust possible.

So what can you see right now?

moon quotes

“When I admire the wonder of a sunset or the beauty of the moon, my soul expands in worship of the Creator”
- Mahatma Gandhi

She used to drag her mattress beside her low window and lie awake for a long while, vibrating with excitement, as a machine vibrates from speed. Life rushed in upon her through that window – or so it seemed. In reality, of course, life rushes from within, not from without. There is no work of art so big or so beautiful that is was not once all contained in some youthful body, like this one which lay on the floor in the moonlight, pulsing with ardor and anticipation.
- Willa Cather, The Song of the Lark

It’s the opinion of some that crops could be grown on the moon. Which raises the fear that it may not be long before we’re paying somebody not to.
- Franklin P. Jones
