There was a tube of lipstick tucked into this tiny hand-made hat.
Most of the people buried in this cemetary are of French or Portuguese extraction. More than a few stones had a “thumbs up” on them.

My daughter was not well this week, so me and her old pal Boo Boo Kitty hopped a bus Sunday to go see her.
Are we there yet?
Boo Boo felt right at home minutes after arrival, and decided not to come back to NYC with me. I totally understood.
Everything was so tidy – my daughter unlike her mom is a regular Dolly Domestic.
We went for a walk round the neighborhood. The light was not best for taking pics, but we caught a few of the neighbors.
Daughter lives in a real neighborhood where everyone is always out on the porch waving at you as you go by. Everyone tends their own gardens and lawns; there’s lots of fruit and wildflowers everywhere.
We walked over to the Walmart, and of course there was a random pair of shoes waiting for me – there always is.
We also walked through a nearby cemetary, but I’ll save those photos for tomorrow.
We had a great day, and best of all Daughter is much much better.
Ciao for now.
The bus company that is.
The young man across the aisle from me is playing M on his laptop.
M is an old German film directed by the legendary Fritz Lang.
Peter Lorre starred in this suspenseful tale of a child killer. It made him a star overnight.
Of course the young man is wearing headphones while watching the film, but it is subtitled in English so I can fully enjoy it.
I had a wonderful afternoon with my daughter. If I don’t fall face first into bed when I get home – I was up at 5 am – I will post a few pictures.
Four hours was all the sleep I had last night, and the circles under my eyes look like someone drew them with a magic marker.
Hope you all had magnificent Sundays.
Ciao for now.

Daughter was not well this week, so I am making the scene for a day in MA.
Would you believe the bus driver won’t stop for photo opps?
Some mumbo jumbo about corporate rules.
Back at you soon with pics and such.

An amazingly funny weblog I found through tumblr yesterday.
I particularly enjoyed this recent post.

Like the title?
It’s actually a weekly event at Brother Jimmy’s BBQ here on the Upper West Side.
The menu includes fried chicken, rib tips, hush puppies and tuna noodle casserole.
Brother Jimmy’s is incredibly noisy, partly because it serves some amazingly high voltage drinks.
This includes group drinks served in goldfish bowls with mutiple extra-long straws.
Funny thing is even with all the action I can sit write in my journal quite happily.
I’ve been a good girl lately, so I think I’ll treat myself to a bit of Southern goodness.
Back at ya soon y’all

I wish I could be as unself-conscious as the woman next to me on this long bench.
She has stretched herself out, head resting on her backpack to enjoy the amazing breeze here at The Columbus Circle Fountain.
Two women on my left debate on men and love. One is a teacher, the other a social worker.
The teacher is very patronizing. The social worker very patient.
Many people are just sitting quietly.
I am both looking out and within.
Ciao for now

As I waited on the corner of 125th & Lenox for the light to change a homeless man waved his hands in my face, spit near my feet and then blew his cigarette smoke in my face.
I gave him my most disinterested look and stared him down.
Upset that I did not show fear he walked off mumbling to himself.
Twenty minutes later a charming woman asked to share my table at the restaurant where I was eating my dinner.
The restaurant’s air conditioner wasn’t working, and they had opened up the floor to ceiling show windows. The area I was sitting in had a great breeze thing going on.
So this woman and I chatted about this and that, and everyone who passed by the place smiled at us and some made comments.
“Enjoy your meal.”
“Yummy huh?”
“How’s the food?”
“Great I eat here all the time.”
“Evening ladies”
Right now I’m in Starbucks, tapping out this post on my Sidekick.
The place is buzzing with conversation, jazzy music pours from the speakers, and I am waiting to see what happens next.
