After an hour of rolling back and forth sleepless on my futon, I pulled on some clothes and headed into the night.
It was 2:47am so I didn’t go far. There’s a 24 hour bakery-deli-pizza parlor across the street. It’s fairly new, but honestly it was a dive from day one.
It was the perfect time to go. They were taking all the fresh baked goods out of the overn. My diet went all to H-E- double hockey sticks as I happily pulled a chair up to my late night/early morning feast. A warm from the oven poppy seed bagel with lox cream cheese, a real ginger-ale and fresh croissant stuffed with gooey chocolate.
Chewing with major pleasure and a tad of guilt I watched the night crawlers. That was dad’s term for the people who walk New York’s streets by night.
All the usual suspects were out. A weird guy dragging an overloaded luggage cart behind him. There’s always a weird guy with an overloaded luggage cart in these places. The guy in the corner talking to himself. The worn out middle-aged lady who works the late shift.
Traffic was surprisingly brisk, mostly yellow cabs, trcuks and rumbly 104 buses.
As I sat I played out an imprtant call I had to make in a few hours.
It was going to be all about empowering the other person to see things my way.
I played out a few dialogues in my head, and by time I was done so was my meal.
Fell asleep as soon as I got home.

Our tabby woke me up about 4:30 licking my head and purring. He loves me! I had to move to the couch, though, to get any sleep.
