That’s what one of my closest friends called my blog.
“Just an online diary”
That was followed by “and why do you refuse to put advertising on it? Other people make money off those things.”
The word things was said with a hint of disdain.
I answered “making money off of things is not always important.”
Their answer – a lock of such shock that you would have thought I had stripped naked, painted myself blue, and run down the main drag.
What say you?

in a way it is an online diary but there’s a community that comes with blogging so I think your friend probably doesn’t blog
making money of blogging is a choice, not something for everyone

making money isn’t for everyone, it can get in the way of inspiration, I know that all too well.

I think people are afraid of what they do not understand. Chances are, your friend might also disdain actual diaries.
As for the money aspect– some people like it, and some people don’t. I don’t really think there is a good answer to that.

My blog will be 4 years old in January & have never wanted to use it to make money.
I have many friends who have started to use their blogs to make $$ & though I still read them & they are my friends I hate reading post with ads in them. I want to read stuff from the heart & mind…..not some crap pthrown together to make $10.
I know that seems a bit harsh but that’s how I feel.
That is what I really like about your blog…it’s real.
I love how u blog fr your Starbucks table or from the bus or from a benchin the park. I get to read about your moments as they happen.
Tres’ cool.

Woohoo, I want to see you naked and blue and running down the street! Okay, now on to serious matters. Lots of people don’t get doing ANYTHING that isn’t done for money. I think that everything should be allowed to evolve naturally. If a blog moves in that direction and keeps its following, fine, if it doesn’t that’s fine too. I don’t explain myself anymore, I just smile and change the subject and if people want to get it they do, if they don’t … well it’s not the worst thing in life, right?

My friends (who don’t necessarily READ either of my blogs on any kind of regular basis) keep saying the same thing to me … but I agree with you that ‘making money off of things is not always important’ …

Hugs and blessings,

my friends dont read mine either, they pop in once in a while. my mom claims its how she knows whats going on in my life. but none of them get it, or would do it themselves. I think just like a diary its a personal thing, and everyone has an opinion about it.
i think it depends on why you blog w/advertising. if you want to have a ton of readers, then thats the way to go.

what say me? Your friend must be a republican. Joking!
I’ve had friends (two of them!) tell me, oh, blogging? Really? That’s for 14 year olds.
I shrug and go on my merry way.

Some of my friends think my blog is a little geeky thing that I should have grown out of long ago. However, they are the kind of friends I don’t see too much of, they have not found the enjoyment one gets from using this form of media, not only to tell other what tickles our fancy, but also remind ourselves from time to time, when the little RAM in our heads is a little fuzzy!!!
So enjoy it, as we do!
