NaBloPoMo #1 – a whole new month

Morning from my subway seat somewhere underground in Manhattan.

It’s a whole new month, and it feels like a whole new life.

Yesterday my daughter was released from the hospital after a five week stay. She was actually supposed to be released the day before, but then at the last moment she had to stay one more day. Something to do with medication, but it’s all fine now.

She was diagnosed with cancer the last week of September. It is a very rare non-genetic form with a high rate of cure. The doctors prescribed a heavy volley of chemo and other medications.

Ten days ago her kidneys totally failed.

Nine days after they failed, they were fully restored with no damage. A blood test revealed 99 percent of the cancer is gone.

Last night she was cleared to go to a party.

There’s quite a ways to go as an outpatient, but the doctors tell us the outlook is very positive.

Tonight I’m putting on my glad rags and going to a party.

Next week I’m hopping on a train to go see her. I can not wait. Just thinking about it makes me tear up.

Life is good folks, very very good.

  1. That is great news! I am so glad she is speeding towards recovery.

Hugs from us all when you see her.

  2. Frances, I’m so glad to hear that your daughter is on the way to putting this behind her. I’ve followed your turmoil thru the group e-mails, but I’m ashamed to say I was so preoccupied with other stuff that a whole 5 weeks (really 5 weeks?!?) had to pass before I utter something… :(
I can only imagine what you went through (not to mention your daughter!); on second thought, I probably can’t. These things always seem happen to others – until, of course, it’s your turn… I’m so very happy for you that things turned around!

I wish you fun at the party – and good luck for NaBloPoMo. (I won’t even try…)

  3. nice to hear your daughter is doing well, what a nice start for November!
