There would be none of the Black Friday madness that killed that man in Valley Stream.
An immigrant who had landed a temporary job, he was probably feeling very lucky that day.
But he was trampled to death by his American Dream.
If it were up to me the police would be right in front of all those major store doors come Black Friday morn.
I was in a cell phone store recently, and watched a teen-ager actually threaten his mother until he got the incredibly expensive phone of his choice.
The woman sighed as she counted the money from her pay envelope.
“If I don’t get it for him he’ll get a job after school, and his grades will go down. Those jeans he’s wearing cost 300 dollars.”
The woman, an immigrant from South America, works as a receptionist. Her son is fifteen.
I’m asking you if someone handed you 300 dollars would you buy jeans?
I could get a great outfit and shoes at Macys, and have money for dinner and a movie!
If it were up to me every kid in grades 1-12 would have to participate in some sort of class charity or volunteer project.
When I was in parochial high school every class was Secret Santa to an adopted family. We only knew their sex and ages. We raised money for everything; tree, dinner and gifts.
I love getting and receiving gifts. If you’ve read my blog recently you I’ve already received a couple of really great early birthday gifts.
I wasn’t expecting them, and that’s what makes them so extra special wonderful.
Hope you all receive something extra special wonderful this holiday season, and that it’s a total surprise.
