puddle jumping and other stuff…

001

It’s warmed up a bit here in New York the last couple of days, and there’s a whole lot of meltin’ going on. Even though they say the groundhog didn’t see his shadow, this display at a local florist gave me a some hope for an early spring.

This winter has been really hard on me health-wise.  I’ve actually had to take time off to just rest.  And I have to tell you I’m absolutely no good at it.  No I’m being very serious here.  It’s like required as opposed to pleasure reading.

If I take a day for myself I like to take a long phootstroll, windowshop and just be out there.  But it’s been so cold, and it’s a damp cold that’s giving my bronchials hell.  Not being able to do any long distance walking is really getting to me.  Okay, enough whining.

I did get to see a couple of good movies over the weekend.  Thank goodness for Movies on Demand.  The following is from Ms Moblog -  one of my other places on the ‘net.

This afternoon I watched ‘The Social Network.’ Amazing what went into the social app so many of us simply can’t live without. My old friend’s niece convinced me to join, and I have to admit I love the ding dang thing.

Last night I watched ‘Let Me in,’ the American remake of the Swedish film ‘Let the Right One In’. LTROI has top spots of honor on my favorite foreign, vampire, horror, and teen film lists. The American version is well-done and I recommend it, but I highly suggest you see both. The Swedish version is truly dark. I’m not one for spoilers, but I will say this is one storyline that has you cheering for the vampire in the end. Oh and the Morse Code in the US version is a nice touch.

The next topic is  self-improvement.  My family will tell you: Don’t let Mom near the as seen on TV aisle.

My latest acquisition:  The Shake Weight

Okay, I hear the giggling – cut it out will you.   This little item could work a miracle on these upper hams  arms of mine.  Now if you really want a laugh head over to You Tube, and watch some of the Shake Weight parodies.

Til we meet again

I guess it goes without saying that alternate side of the street parking rules have been suspended.

Had a lovely New Years Day brunch at The Red Rooster.

The place has everything: great food, great service & a mirror in the ladies loo with a great frame.
And I love a great frame ;)

It’s a little thing, but it totally made my day.
But then again isn’t that always the way?

Big Bird on the N train

Actually I needed to take the R, but just couldn’t miss this photo opp. No biggie a transfer was available in just a few stops. Sorry about the fuzziness – the train was rockin’ and rollin’.

Such a New York moment.

Fear on 21st Street (review)

Just popped this up at Yelp, which is quickly becoming my place to go for what’s happening in NYC.

I found this this new and noteworthy addition to the NYC Haunted Venue Scene quite by accident.

I had visited two of New York’s Unholy Trio, Nightmare: Superstition & Blood Manor, already this season. My e-ticket to NYC Halloween Haunted House in my always with me handbag; a back up copy safely tucked away in a hidden place just in case.

Haunted Venues are a passion of mine, and I’m always searching the Internet for new ones in and around the NYC area.

When Fearon21st popped up on a Google search I was more than happy. It was in one of my favorite areas of Manhattan, and the hours were do-able.

Tony Award® winning, Emmy nominated Yeeshai Gross is the producer creator of this interactive horrorama.

Fear on 21 st Street is more than a mad dash through a series of prop filled rooms. Actually it is a bit of a mad dash because you’re on a guided tour that take a bad turn at a home for the criminally insane.

The actors are young, enthusiastic and plentiful. My favorites?

The inmate that slithered snake-like between our feet at the door.

Spine Girl – that’s what I called her – you’ll know here when you see her.

The Doctor

Your Tour Guide – watch it she bites!

The sets are filled with the goriest of props, and that always makes thing fun.

The managers and staff are welcoming, and very interested in customer feedback.

This event’s run is relatively short compared to other venues – October 14-31st.

And while they haven’t advertised as extensively as others, they are getting a nice turnout.

They do have several of the undead shambling up and down 21st with their flyers.

For those driving in there’s a parking lot right across the street.

Their website is http://www.fear21.com
Happy Halloween to all.

boo!

just thought I would share some photos with you all…

Found while browsing through my flickr for blogger fodder.

This is my darling daughter and only child Josephine.  She was so excited the day she sent me this photo; her hair was touching her shoulders again.

This is me reflected in a subway sign.  Most of my self-portraits are reflections.  I am sure there is some deep psychological reason for this.  If you know please drop me a comment.

This young lady had a friend circling about her and the statue with a video camera. There was something about how still she was that made me watch for quite a while.

An artist working in Union Square fashioned this brush rest out of a branch. Don’t you just love it?

This jar full of match books called to me from a downtown window. Wish it hadn’t been behind glass.

Just one of last year’s Halloween candy purchases. Hey, I better get over to Shoprite before they run out of mini Snickers!

Be well one and all.
